Through a new perspective

Updated: Jan 29, 2021

One of the wonderfully unique aspects of art is that it allows others to see through a very specific lens. Forms of art such as drawing and painting open up new worlds of different perspectives. With heavy topics, such as broken families, art can touch many different people in unimaginable ways.

For years, art has been given new outlooks on various topics. A very unique art exhibit in 1987 titled “Divorce From a Child’s Point of View” took place at Children’s Divorce Center in Woolbridge. Through exhibits like this, people can see the conflicting emotions children go through in their families.

Families have been the main inspiration of many artworks throughout history. Rembrandt Harmensz van Rijn painted a famous portrait of a man assumed to be his son. His son Titus was Rembrandt’s only child that survived into adulthood, despite having four. Through this portrait, we can see a perspective of Rembrandt's son through his eyes.

This familial inspiration has continued on to the present day as well, with many artists depicting aspects of their family through art. For many, their entire lives are centered around their family, and art allows the world to see their family through new and creative eyes.
